Our next (and the last) lecture in the series “Discover Ukraine: history, culture, and its people”, entitled ‘Society in turbulent times: Ukraine after 2014’ by Anna Chebotarova, University of Oslo, will take place on 1 June.
In the first two decades of independence, the development of Ukraine as “a post-Communist but not yet post-Soviet” state was characterised by transformation processes both typical and unique to the region. Yet numerous studies have shown that Ukrainian society has changed significantly after the Euromaidan protests of 2013–14, the annexation of Crimea and the war in Donbas. The level of societal resilience and resistance to the current Russian invasion has been unprecedented. The lecture will give insights into the impact of protracted and acute Russian military aggression on Ukrainian society and the peculiarities of sociological research in times of war.
